Illinois gets $750k grant to help implement landmark sex crimes law

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced Wednesday her office has received a $750,000, three-year federal grant to help implement a new sex crimes law that goes into effect next year.

The landmark legislation was signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner in August and puts in place requirements for law enforcement agencies designed to improve the response to sexual assault crimes and encourage victims to come forward.

Madigan said in a statement the grant from U.S. Department of Justice will provide the resources needed to establish a new training program and procedures for police officers as required under the law.
