Cook County state’s attorney candidates debate new cop panel

The Cook County state’s attorney race made its way to the Chicago Tribune’s editorial board for a debate with Election Day less than two months away.

Democrat Kim Foxx and Republican Chris Pfannkuche squared off Tuesday fielding questions about Chicago’s gun violence, the often-criticized Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) and gaining back the community’s trust.

Foxx is a former assistant state’s attorney for Cook County who served under current Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. Foxx defeated Alvarez in the March primary election using the police shooting death of black teenager Laquan McDonald and Alvarez’s reaction…
