City Council committee OK’s do-over for red-light, speed camera tickets

With $250 million in damages hanging in the balance, a City Council committee on Monday approved Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to get ahead of a lawsuit by correcting “procedural errors” that denied due process to 1.5 million motorists nailed with red-light and speed camera tickets.

A judge has ruled that the city made a mistake by failing to send those motorists a second notice of their violations — then changing the law to eliminate the need for a second notice.
