Resolution filed to remove Mautino from office

Republican lawmakers on Wednesday filed a measure seeking the removal of Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino from office.

State Rep. Dwight Kay, R-Glen Carbon, announced the filling of House Joint Resolution 0158 in response to Mautino’s failure to answer lawmakers’ repeated requests for clarification on questionable campaign spending during his time as a state representative.

The measure, which has 14 co-sponsors, comes after GOP lawmakers for more than five months have been unable to get answers from the state’s top financial watchdog, who currently is under both state and federal investigations.
