Top 10 biggest Illinois political donations since Feb. 5

When downstate Sen. Sam McCann, R-Plainview, cast the lone Republican vote on a bill to weaken Gov. Bruce Rauner’s power in union negotiations, he angered his party and earned a challenge in the March 15 Republican primary.

But he also gained favor with organized labor, which is backing him in the Republican primary.

A union donation to McCann is among the Top 10 political contributions of the past week, according to Illinois Board of Elections records as tracked by Illinois Sunshine.  So far in 2016, there have been $13,805,251 worth of contributions, $2,211,638 of which came in the past week,…
