Chicago school funding pits charters vs. neighborhood schools; teacher says project learning better than testing

In the latest development in an ongoing debate about traditional public schools and charter schools, Chicago Public Schools’ proposed budget for the 2014-2015 school year shows that the district plans to cut funding from 504 traditional schools by $72 million while increasing it to 143 privately run charter schools because of enrollment shifts. The full budget allows for $5.8 billion in total CPS funding, which the Board of Education plans to vote on in a meeting July 23.
